I want to expand my Indiana Beach, Caesar Creek or Lake MI vacations in this area, …Trying not to go to far with the gas crisis. :(

You can always try Norris Lake in the Tennessee area. I know a number of people that have been there, and they like it better than Cumberland. They say its cleaner, amongst other things.
You can always look for rentals on some of the lesser known lakes as well, such as Hardy lake in Indiana, Brookville Lake in Indiana, Buckeye lake up near Columbus, Grand Lake St. Mary’s in Celina Ohio, etc. There’s also Salt Fork state park in SE Ohio, or Hueston Woods, but the lakes there arent real big.

do you find beach vacations boring or fun?

Vacations for people who want to leave Alaska?

Posted by admin on February 20th, 2010 and filed under beach vacations | 2 Comments »

My wife and I live in Anchorage. We want to take a vacation somewhere sunny and warm. Either a cruise or a regular beach vacation will do. The problem is that it is a ridiculous ammount of money to go anywhere from here. Any tips that could save us some money?

Try bookit.com, specifically:

http://www.bookit.com/Vacations/

It searches based on your IP address but you can easily change your location if it shows up wrong

They allow you to search based on your location using FROM technology. Unfortunately the only places it searches are in the US, Mexico, South America and the Carribean so don’t try and book and European vacations there. One complaint that I have is they don’t update the fares regularly so if you see something that seems like a great deal when you go to select specific dates the price will have already changed.

Hope that helps.

What is the name of the song with no words that’s always in beach movies or tropical vacations in movies?

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2010 and filed under beach vacations | 3 Comments »

there’s this song that they play in pretty much every movie when they’re going to the beach or somewhere tropical as they’re stepping off the plane or walking to their room or exploring the resort or beach or whatever. it was in a movie about boxing with antonio banderas in it. i want to buy it on iTunes. but i don’t know what it’s called.

it has no words.

I can hear in my head the sort of tune you’re getting at.

I’m not sure it’s always the same tune, but the general distinctive sound you have in mind is that of the Hawaiian steel guitar.

Family vacation ideas…My family hates beach vacations?

Posted by admin on February 14th, 2010 and filed under beach vacations | 11 Comments »

any ideas of a good family vacation…with plenty of things to do. Every year until now we have gone to Disney World and Universal and are ready for something new.
12yr old girl and 14yr old boy

Well, I recently got back off of a cruise to Alaska. We went on Norwegian Cruise Lines and every night they have a free show like magic or chinese acrobats. They have swimming pools, free restaurants, a theater, game rooms, dancing, computer rooms, arcades and all sorts of other stuff just on the ship alone. You can do all kind of things at ports too. You can go on a train through the mountians, kayaking, helecopter rides, dog sledding, etc. Not to mention, you can whale watch from the ship decks. It was a really fun vacation and I was never bored. I think that everybody of all ages would love it there.

Where to go for good beach vacation on Atlantic Coast?

Posted by admin on November 16th, 2009 and filed under beach vacations | 2 Comments »

I want to rent a beach house – family of five, three kids ages 15-11. Looking for a nice beach (water not too cold) interesting surroundings, not too commercial, but not isolated either.
Can go anywhere from Cape Cod to Cape Hatteras, NC, and want to keep costs down.

Any suggestions? I know of Cape Cod, Rehoboth Beach, Ocean City, Va Beach and the Outer Banks. Which is best?

Anywhere along the outer banks of north carolina would be a good choice; Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, and Killdevil Hills consists of more hotels and stores, and the areas from Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, and the areas beyond KillDevil Hills are pretty quiet areas with rental and residential locations. Va beach is a good choice as well, and is relatively close to a lot of tourist attractions on the southeastern tip of Virginia, and is about 20-30 minutes from Norfolk [which has a pretty nice mall if you like shopping].
