Using accessories is a fun way to accent your bedroom for a beach theme. You will find that you can dramatically change the look of your room simply by making small changes with the accents. See how easy it is to get a designer beach theme look in your bedroom without shelling out the big bucks.
If you’re not sure exactly what you want in your beach desing, try looking in decorating magazines and books to get a flavor of the accessories you would like to see in your bedroom. For keeping the beach look consistent, you’ll have to limit yourself to only purchase the accessories that match your theme.
Colors for a beach décor should make you think of the beach. Light and breezy with lots of blues and maybe even some yellows. If you prefer neutral tones think of the beige of beach sand and the color of shells.
Incorporate sea shells, ocean prints, and other seaside accents that will help bring out the beach in your bedroom. You should group your accessories in odd numbers. It always looks nice if your groupings consists of tall and short accessories mixed together. An interesting group of accents might consists of some shells aside a nice beach theme frame and a taller lamp.
Use beach theme prints and photos on your walls to establish the theme throughout your bedroom. Many people do not know how to correctly hang a piece of art and this makes a big difference to the visual appeal. Whether you are hanging a large oil painting or a small print, the middle of the piece should be at eye level. If you have a large piece of artwork you can try using it as a headboard. When hanging prints or photos behind a table, always place them 7 to 10 inches above the table. Hang pictures in circular, triangular, or rectangular geometric groupings to add interest.
When accessorizing your bedroom don’t forget about the lighting. When purchasing lamps make sure to buy ones that go with the beach theme you want to create. For beach style lighting try using clear glass lamps filled with shells or figural light house shaped lamps.
Area rugs can define a space and pull your bedroom together. Rest furniture completely on the rug for a warmer effect. Only use rugs that go with your beach accessories.
Using pillows can add interest as well. Use several at the top of the bed and vary the texture colors and patterns while still keeping the color and theme within your overall bedroom design.
Don’t think you have to buy everything for your bedroom at once. Shop around to find the perfect accessories to match the beach theme in your bedroom. You can find bargains at consignment stores flea markets and yard sales.

Stay at the beach all night when your bedroom looks like a beach front oasis
Many people enjoy the beach and hate to leave it. Yet bringing the beach inside usually consists of tracking in sand on feet or shaking out the bathing suit all over the bathroom. There is a much easier way to bring the beach indoors, a beach themed bedroom.
PAINT
The first step is paint. The best color choice is blue to evoke the color of the ocean. The shade of blue, however, is up to personal preference. There are bright blues like Behr Paint’s Windjammer or there’s more of a light blue with Ralph Lauren’s Cloud Blue. Any color works that evokes the sense of being open and airy and outside.
BEDDING
There are many different options for bedding, however there’s a caution regarding beach themed bedspreads. These tend to look a little tacky and definitely not the beach oasis the decorator is trying to achieve.
The bedding would look nice in a chocolate or khaki, reminiscent of sand. A white bedspread would look best and give an airy feeling but let’s be honest, it’s extremely hard to maintain a white bedspread.
If the walls are a darker blue a light colored bedspread should be used. Light chocolate or khaki as mentioned previously or even a light yellow to evoke the feeling of the sun. If the walls are light than the rule is vice versa.

Also try bleaching hard wood floors a white, brings the beachy feelin in. Also a light blue or white wall with beachy tan and light blue accents works great. Good luck

Ideas are easy. If you have a ceiling light I’d look for a bowl cover (something cheap and inexpensive) I’d get some glass paint from a hobby store and I’d paint it like a beach ball. Reuse an old lamp or buy one. I’m sure you could find out how to online but my husband bought his mom some cheap but lovely vases and her husband turned them into lamps (if he can do it so can a child). So hunt garage sales, flea markets and thrift store if you want. If you find a lamp you like why not turn the shade into an umbrella. Go to a dollar store and look for kid umbrellas if you don’t have one you can use.
Get a pair of wire cutters and some fabric or a invest in a hot glue gun. First cut the wires that connect it to the pole. Then cut the wires that hold the umbrella together at the top, cut a small hole in the fabric leaving you plenty to work with and then a cut down one side to make it one piece. Measure, cut and glue (ask the lady and the hobby/crafts store what you should use) it on to the lamp shade. If need you can puncture small holes into the lamp shade and use a staples from a gun (or metal twisties I suppose, no paper) to secure the metal wires of the umbrella to the shade. One time my staple gun broke so I pushed the staples thur and then used needle nose pliers to bend them close. If that’s all too much for you then look for a hula girl (you can make your own by just decorating a doll) and make your own hula girl lamp.
If you have wooden floors I’d get some sand colored throw rugs. But if you have neutral carpeting I’d get cheapwovenn rugs that look like beach towels.
If you can and want to, I’d paint my headboard and bed frame white. Possibly paint the lifeguard symbol on the headboard and decorate the bed in solid red pillow cases and sheet with a white blanket. If you don’t have a headboard but a blank wall behind your bed then that’s where I’d paint the sun. Using your bed level as a marker, I’d paint the ocean this way your bedspread could be blue (I’d look for a white set and I’d tye dye it in different shades of blue, or get light blue bed set and tye dye it with a dark blue). First though I would dye a small piece of fabric and take my un-dyed bed sheet to the hardware store so they could make those colors. For the wall border of your ocean I would get sponges and paint the ocean. Don’t worry about the gaps, just filled them in with alternating colors, it’s more the texture you’re after. For the sun a small can of bright yellow paint, and two small cans of paint (like fits in your hand small, find at crafts store). I’d use a sponge for the sun as well but instead of repeatedly tapping the wall I’d go in circular motions. Throw a dot of orange and red on with a small paint brush and then smear it in so there’s only hints of color.
Alternatively you can just buy a can of sand colored paint , a little sand from the hobby shop (put on paint trey not in paint can) and sponge your 1/4 of the length of your walls, hopefully your walls are already white and some gaps will blend in. I’d paint 2/4 of the wall like the ocean and then the last part near the ceiling would be a dark and light blue mix with the ceiling being dark blue. Then I’d just get some white paint (or glow in the dark paint) and I’d dot my ceiling with stars.
I know it’s a lot of work but anything worth doing right is.

Doing a room in a beach theme is rather simple because beach accessories are everywhere.
If you want a seashore theme, select colors like light blues, yellows, tans and coral. If you want more of a tropical Caribbean theme, then brighter colors are in order, such as shades of turquoise, bright yellows, periwinkle and deep corals. Go to the paint store and get fist loads of paint samples. Pick all colors that remind you of the beach. Take more than you think you will need. Now, go home and spread them all out on your bed. Quickly, go through them and take out the ones you do not like. Do this several times, taking only 30 seconds to do this each time. So, now you will have on your bed, the colors you do like best. Continue the process of elimination and you will end up with the colors you like right before your very eyes. I know this sounds so simple–that’s because it is really that simple.
Let’s begin with paint. If you are painting your ceiling, paint it either a very, very pale blue or yellow. This ceiling should be oh so with just a hint of color, like getting a gallon of white and adding only a 1/2 cup of color. Paint one wall behind your bed a featured color, such as coral (not pink, not orange: coral) and the rest of the room yellow with lots of blue accents. Or, paint your room aqua blue with a turquoise feature wall behind the bed. Make a statement with color or go subdued with tan walls and navy and red accents.
You can use a piece of picket fence for your headboard, painted white. Paint your furniture white and if you can, change the knobs to colored glass ones. Hang a fishing net (craft store) against the ceiling and put shells, sun glasses, star fish, a beach ball and the like in the netting. Use sand pails to store things in. If space allows, set up a small beach umbrella in a corner. Get sea glass, shells and colored sand (craft stores) to put in clear glass containers to place on your window sill (go to the GoodWill or Salvation army for these things at really cheap prices). Or, collect blue glass bottles and put them on your window sill for light to reflect through the glass. Find a round life ring with cording around it to hang on the wall (like on Gilligan’s Island). Glue shells around a mirror frame. Mount a piece of drift wood onto the wall and put hooks on it for your jewelry.
If possible, get a mini tabletop water feature so you can enjoy the tranquil sound of water trickling.
Hang white breezy curtains. Glue shell trim around the bottom of a lamp shade. Get beach themed paper (scrapbook section of craft store) and cover your switch plates and outlet covers. Get a collection of different size and shape frames (thrift shops) and paint them all the same color to hang on the wall in a grouping.
Bedding should be crisp and fresh looking in a solid color with maybe a striped bed skirt in a color to compliment your paint. Get a solid bedspread and load the bed up with colorful pillows or make some of your own with beachy fabric found in a fabric store. Or, go find a colorful beach towel and use it for a wall mural (hem the top, slip through a curtain rod and use as a curtain, if you want to) and or use it for fabric for your decorative pillows.
And, you must get a gold fish in one of those glass bowls to top it all off. Or maybe a colorful Chinese fighting fish (you can only have one at a time or they will try to kill each other).
So, all of these ideas should get you started so you will be on your way to a beach themed room.
